'Stronger than Steel' Premier

Congratulations to Year 6 on their fantastic play ‘STRONGER THAN STEEL,’ AT PONTARDAWE ARTS CENTRE. It was a fantastic experience for them to have written and then performed in front of family in a working theatre. A huge thanks to Derek Cobley and Colleen Wynn for their professional input and an even bigger thanks to Mr Maddock and Miss Frances for guiding the pupils and ensuring this play was not only fantastic on the day but a valuable learning experience. The play was professionally filmed in the morning session and USB copies available to buy for £5 after half term.

A synopsis of the play is:

Despite the challenges faced by the people of Port Talbot—such as invasions, forced relocations, industrial hardships, poverty, strikes, and environmental degradation—the community has remained resilient and united. There is a sense of strength, pride, and solidarity of the people, who have built their lives around the steelworks and the town’s industrial heritage. The play highlights the importance of family, friendship, love, and community support in overcoming adversity. Ultimately, the story celebrates the enduring spirit of Port Talbot, portraying it as a place where the past meets the future, and where hope and determination keep the community thriving.
