Year 4 were sensational supporting the Bishop Vaughan cast of Annie Jr! They sand and acted their hearts out. What a fantastic experience to be on stage in a real production! Thank you to all the pupils for being so fantastic! Mrs James for all of her hard work and to all the parents for bringing the pupils and coming along to watch.
Year 6 met the Minister for Children and Social Care, Dawn Bowden, in Coed Gwilym Park to celebrate the investment in and commitment to enhancing local play opportunities. They also visited St Joseph’s Cathedral Primary, one of our cluster schools, to take part in a Welsh bilingual beatbox and DJ session.
Year 5 had a great time in the Big Pit National Coal Museum where they learnt about life working in a mine, as part of their 'Pits & Ponies' topic work.

This year to celebrate our ‘Wythnos Cymreig/ Welsh Week’ our focus is 'Croeso.' We are promoting Welsh hospitality, culture, and "hwyl" (fun/joy), encouraging visitors to experience unique Welsh welcomes and destinations. As a school we will be learning about all the beautiful places there are to visit in Wales and our culture, food etc.
For their Half Term Homework pupils are expected to choose and complete one (or more) activities from the list below. Winning entries will receive a certificate during our Eisteddfod Merit Award on Friday February 27th. Pupils will be able to wear their Welsh costumes, Welsh rugby/football tops or the colour red. ALL ENTRIES MUST BE IN BY TUESDAY FEBRUARY 24th to be judged in time.
During the afternoon of Friday 28th February at 1:30pm parents are welcome (croeso) to come into their child’s class to hear/see what has been learnt that week. Parents are also welcome to attend our Year 6 Crowning of the bard at 2:15 pm.
We will have a special Family Mass at St Benedict’s Church, Clydach on Sunday 1st March 10 am. All pupils are welcome to come dressed in their Welsh costumes, Welsh rugby/football tops or the colour red. It will be lovely to celebrate our national day together.
We can't wait for next week for our Year 4 pupils to join Bishop Vauaghn in the Annie Jr production. We will be part of the production on Wednesday 11th February. Tickets are for sale – information has been sent from school and is on the newsletters.
'Great Athlete' Paralympian Rhiannon Henry led a whole school event today designed to inspire every child to lead a more active, resilient and healthy life. Not only did we have a great time completing fun activity circuits, but we also raised a lot of money for the school to spend on sports equipment. Thank you to everyone for their generosity. I hope your child will tell you all about the fun they had. Rhiannon also completed a Q & A session and our piupils asked some really thoughtful and sensible questions.
A huge diolch to Mrs Weaver and the Criw Cymraeg for organising our Santes Dwynwen celebrations. The Patrwm Yr Wythnos this week was 'Pwy wyt ti'n caru?' 'Who do you love?' and we had some lovely answers during assemblies including Jesus, mams and dads, Mr Reed and ffrindiau. Criw Cymraeg organised and judged a lovespoon making competition and the entries were made of wood, cardboard, wool and clay. There was one winner from each class who received a prize although it must have been very hard to choose!

All classes were asked to take part in the 'Great British Bird Watch' this week. Pupils have been collecting data on birds they have seen around the school environment.
Year 6 visited The Senedd on Cardiff Bay, exploring democracy and how important decisions are made in Wales. Before the visit, Year 6 had their own election debate discussing their most popular political policies.
They then had a quick visit to the National Theatre of Wales, to see the sights!
✨ Welcome Back and Happy New Year! ✨
As we begin this new year together, we celebrate the Feast of the Epiphany, a reminder of the light that guides us. Just as the Wise Men followed the star to find Jesus, we too are called to seek truth, hope, and love in all we do.
May this year be filled with joy, learning, and kindness, and may we always shine as a light for others. Let us walk forward with faith and gratitude, trusting that God’s guidance will lead us to wonderful discoveries.
“Arise, shine, for your light has come!” (Isaiah 60:1)
Welcome back to a year of growth and blessings! 🌟
