There were dragons, crocodiles, Sponge Bobs, Cats in Hats, Dog Men and other animal characters. A range of Harry Potter characters, including a dementor! Roald Dahl's Mr Wonka and an Oompa Loompa, Matildas and James and David Walliams characters including an almost life-size van! Fairytale characters and princesses, Where's Wallies and Enid Blyton's Famous Five and Mallory Towers. 

The most important thing isn’t dressing up but reading! Reading for 20 minutes a day, to or with your child, exposes them to nearly 1.8 million words annually, significantly boosting vocabulary, comprehension, and academic performance. This daily habit builds language skills far beyond daily conversation, helps emotional development and strengthens parent-child bonds. 

They met flamingos, geese and learnt about many different types of wildlife and habitats.

 They all came back a bit soggy and shattered, but they thoroughly enjoyed the learning experience.

If we all brought in just one pound we would make this target!  'A better world needs all of us'. 

Also, a big thank you to all the staff who came and helped make the Mass the lovely occasion it was.

This morning we presented all of our Welsh Week homework winners with their certificates, and they shared their fantastic work with us. The focus of our Welsh Week / 'Wythnos Cwricwlwm Cymreig' this year was 'Croeso'–Wales' beautiful welcome to everyone and its land.  A huge thank you to all the pupils and their parents for the homework that was completed, and we hope everyone enjoyed getting out and about in half-term exploring our beautiful areas.

In the afternoon, parents came in to classes to see and hear about all the lovely work that has gone on during our Welsh Week, and were even treated to some Welsh songs.

Then we had our 'Crowning of the Bard' ceremony. Year 6 had written poems about their 'Cynefin' and they were judged by Mrs Weaver, our Welsh Lead and Mr Maddock, the yr 6 teacher. The winner of our 2026 Eisteddfod and our 2026 Bard was announced as William Erasmus. Llongyfarchiadau i Wiiliam!

Well done to Nolah and Milo for bravely introducing our entry.

They will then bring in their tag and share with/present to their classmates why they have chosen that character/book.  Pupils can also dress up as that character if they wish. 

We will also have lots of reading activities going on and Years 5 & 6 will be 'Book Buddies' for the younger classes.

For the parents we will send out information about the benefits of 20 minutes of reading with your child each day.

This year to celebrate our ‘Wythnos Cymreig/ Welsh Week’ our focus is  'Croeso.' We are promoting Welsh hospitality, culture, and "hwyl" (fun/joy), encouraging visitors to experience unique Welsh welcomes and destinations. As a school we will be learning about all the beautiful places there are to visit in Wales and our culture, food etc.

For their Half Term Homework pupils are expected to choose and complete one (or more) activities from the list below. Winning entries will receive a certificate during our Eisteddfod Merit Award on Friday February 27th. Pupils will be able to wear their Welsh costumes, Welsh rugby/football tops or the colour red. ALL ENTRIES MUST BE IN BY TUESDAY FEBRUARY 24^th to be judged in time.

During the afternoon of Friday 28^th February at 1:30pm parents are welcome (croeso) to come into their child’s class to hear/see what has been learnt that week. Parents are also welcome to attend our Year 6 Crowning of the bard at 2:15 pm.

We will have a special Family Mass at St Benedict’s Church, Clydach on Sunday 1^st March 10 am. All pupils are welcome to come dressed in their Welsh costumes, Welsh rugby/football tops or the colour red. It will be lovely to celebrate our national day together.

They then had a quick visit to the National Theatre of Wales, to see the sights!

As we begin this new year together, we celebrate the Feast of the Epiphany, a reminder of the light that guides us. Just as the Wise Men followed the star to find Jesus, we too are called to seek truth, hope, and love in all we do.

May this year be filled with joy, learning, and kindness, and may we always shine as a light for others. Let us walk forward with faith and gratitude, trusting that God’s guidance will lead us to wonderful discoveries.

Welcome back to a year of growth and blessings! 🌟

This week Early Years have had their Christmas party and had a very special visitor as they have been so good!

We wore Jubilee colours – Green for growth, new life & hope; Red for love, sacrifice and the fire of the Holy Spirit; Blue for faith, peace & tranquillity and Orange for joy, vitality & enthusiasm.

Everyone brought in £1 to raise money for everyone to have a treat bag for our Christmas panto visit. A big thanks to the  'Friends of St Joseph' group who will buy and pack treat bagels for all pupils.

 Joyal came to this school and his parents brought chocolates for all the pupils and cakes for staff for us to   remember Joyal and to say a prayer to keep him safe in heaven. We thank the George family for their support and   kindness.

Four of our Year 5 & 6 pupils are being trained to inspire their classmates to be more physically active and lead sports activities in their schools. These ambassadors are mentored by the Swansea Council's Sport and Health Team and as part of the Sports Council they can feed back and lead the group in various tasks.

A synopsis of the play is:

 Despite the challenges faced by the people of Port Talbot—such as invasions, forced relocations, industrial hardships, poverty, strikes, and environmental degradation—the community has remained resilient and united. There is a sense of strength, pride, and solidarity of the people, who have built their lives around the steelworks and the town’s industrial heritage. ​ The play highlights the importance of family, friendship, love, and community support in overcoming adversity. ​ Ultimately, the story celebrates the enduring spirit of Port Talbot, portraying it as a place where the past meets the future, and where hope and determination keep the community thriving.
