Year 3 Measure the Famous Ludwig Mond Statue

This week, Year 3 put their estimating and measuring skills into action in the Clydach community when they went to measure the famous statue of Ludwig Mond.
In class, we had been learning how to use a ruler carefully to measure in centimetres and millimetres. We then built on this knowledge to understand how to measure in metres. To put our new skills into practice, we set off to see how tall the Ludwig Mond statue really was!
The children made their own estimates before working together to measure carefully and accurately. It was fantastic to see them apply what they had learned in a real-life context, and they thoroughly enjoyed the challenge.
Everyone agreed it was a great way to bring our maths learning to life, and Year 3 did themselves proud with their enthusiasm and teamwork.
