Year 1

Welcome to Year 1

Our class saint is St. John Paul II, the feast day of St. John Paul II is on 22nd of October. He was a Pope for 27 years and he was the first Polish Pope. He loved Mary, our mother and children. One of the main reasons we chose him was because he is the Patron Saint of families, as our class is like a big family.

Our new topic is ‘Bright Lights, Big City’. This project teaches children about the physical and human characteristics of the United Kingdom, including a detailed exploration of the characteristics and features of the capital city, London.

Galilee to Jerusalem The focus of this branch is for learners to develop an early understanding of the Christian belief that, through the ministry of Jesus, some of those who encountered him recognised he was the Son of God.

Literacy We will be focusing on writing sentences using capital letters and full stops and other punctuation e.g. question marks and exclamation marks. We will be looking at a variety of texts and stories. Please continue to recap sounds, letters, words and simple spelling patterns, encouraging your child to become more independent and confident.

Numeracy will be focusing on the following skills: - Place value - number facts - Addition and subtraction - 3D shapes; time - numbers and counting - Fractions - Money.
