Yeras 3, 4 , 5 & 6 had a great time at the Urdd Jambori singing Welsh songs and having fun!
For St Joseph's Sports Day this year, not only did we have lots of fun sports activities celebrating the inclusive school we are, but we also welcomed schools from across the Catholic cluster, Diocese and the UK to join with us. Mr Maddock has brought Gaelic football to our school, which has greatly enhanced our sporting skills and experience, and this year he organised the Summer Games 2026 to come to Coed Gwilym Park. With the support of the British Provincial Council, the Southern Games has been designed not simply as a one‑day festival, but as a platform for long-term regional development.
Southern Games 20206 is highly beneficial for St. Joseph's as it strengthens the school's sense of identity, celebrates Welsh culture and sport and enhances community pride. It provides pupils with opportunities to participate, build confidence and teamwork, and connect with local heritage, while also raising the school's profile in the wider community.
We all had a great sporting day, and it was lovely to see so many past pupils back to play, help and run the games – this is a testament to the impact Mr Maddock and Gaelic Football have made on many young lives. A huge thank you to him for all of his hard work to organise such a huge day. We finished off the day with a rendition of Welsh songs and our National anthem – thank you, Mrs Weaver.
Also, a big thanks to our amazing team of partes in the 'Friends of St Joseph's' who organised everything and worked non-stop all day making sure visitors had refreshments as well as raising money for our school and towards our Sunflower Day charity.
Year 3 had a fantastic trip to the Roman Museum in Newport. They had so much fun and learnt so much about the Romans. Amazing behaviour from all- a big thank you to Miss Sharon, Miss Aga and Gethin for helping out during the day!

8 of our Year 3 & 4 pupils took part in the Swansea Schools Tennis Team Competetition in the LC2. They came 3rd out of 6 schools, with Jayden & Martha winning all of their games. The children played doubles and singles matches and had a great experience. Thank you to Mr Reed and the parents who helped take them. Behaviour was excellent – as usual.
Criw Cymraeg’s message prepared us well for our ‘Day of Culture & Dialogue’ where we celebrated that we are all different, but all made equal in the eyes of God.
Pupils wore their national costumes or colours from their home flags. Everyone was very colourful and looked beautiful. We are all very proud of our home nations.

Wednesday was National Bee Day, and we all learnt about how important it is to improve the conditions for bee survival so that bees and other pollinators may thrive. Without bees, we couldn’t grow crops and flowers.
A huge thank you to Criw Cymraeg and Mrs Weaver for their PAG assembly on Thursday for telling us about Urdd’s 105th year of Peace & Goodwill message, declaring that “peace speaks every language.
School Council led a PAG (Pupil Action Group) Assembly to launch Mental Health Week. A big thank you to Mrs James for organising Mental Health Awareness Day. Pupils wore green and there were lots of fun wellbeing activities in all classes.

To honour Our Lady during her special month of May, we had a May procession and crowning of Our Lady at St Benedict’s' after Ascension Thursday Mass. We usually crown Our Lady in the school yard. However, the weather was forecast to be very wet, so Years 1–6 went to Mass, and Nursery & Reception had their own special procession and crowning at school.
We all brought in our rosaries to say a decade of the rosary, and we brought flowers to lay at Our Lady's statues.
A big thank you to Miss Marie for making the beautiful crown.
Yr 6 had their residential last week at Borfa House, Port Eynon. The weather wasn’t great, but they had a great time together surfing, learning Bush crafts etc. A huge thank you to Mr Maddock, Miss Fran & Miss Sharon for giving up their time to enable the pupils to go
Our Year 3 and 4 boys’ football teams took part in an exciting festival held at Pure Football Swansea, competing against over 50 teams from across the area. The event provided a fantastic opportunity for the children to showcase their skills, teamwork, and love of the game in a fun and competitive environment.
